Hi everyone, Tim here. To give you a bit of background on this release: A while back, I decided it might be fun to do a project where I collaborate with every producer I'm into in the modern-day jungle scene. Given the size of such a project (numerous EPs), I wasn’t sure if any label would be up for making a series of releases centered around this concept, so I decided to do it myself.
Future Retro London was originally intended to be a club night focused around the current wave of producers making jungle, but there had always been plans to one day expand the brand into releasing music by these same artists. But, with the current pandemic leaving clubs in a position where they are unable to hold any nights in a safe manner, it only felt right that I refocus my energy towards the label side of things for now.
To that end, I’ll be doing a series of releases called “Meeting Of The Minds”. Each release will be a 4 track EP, consisting of tunes I’ve made in collaboration with other jungle producers. I want the series to capture the diversity of tastes in the jungle scene today, whilst also helping to showcase some of the talented producers I feel should have more appreciation for what they do. That was, after all, the exact same goal I had in mind while planning Future Retro London as a club night.
I've been a big fan of Kloke since his release on Diamond Life in 2018. “Artificial Memories” has been one of the top most played tunes on my radio show “Blog to the Oldskool”, quickly becoming a major staple in sets by both me and my co host Pete Dev/Null. I'd never spoken to Kloke before this project, and didn't really have a clue who he was. Luckily, he responded to my message on SoundCloud, and we managed to work on “Foundation”, as well as several more tunes to come in the future.
Dwarde is, without a doubt, the person I've worked with the most in music since I first started producing. Because of this, it was clear to me he needed to be involved from the very first release. Having done many tunes with him on the Globex Corp series on 7th Storey Projects, “Inside Of Me” is a continuation of the vibes & style that we were pushing on that series… no hidden Simpsons sounds on this one though!
I've been doing radio with Dev/Null on Jungletrain for about 6 years now. We share a lot of common taste in music, which has led to us making a number of collaborations over the years, including a few tracks released on the Globex Corp series. TDD (a programming term, as both I and Pete are full-time developers) is the kind of tune I've been wanting to make for a long time now: something with more breathing room than usual, where the beats roll out nicely.
Msymiakos is a name I've seen around a fair bit over the past few years: first with his releases on Amenology, and later with his “Mobster Tales” release. The latter in particular sounded unlike any new jungle release I've heard in a long while! Because of this, I reached out to him to work on a tune, and “Placidity” is the result.
This release is coming out as a pre-order - I hope to have the finished copies ready to ship out within the next few weeks. This release will only be available for sale from this Bandcamp. It's been mastered by Simon @ The Exchange, pressed at Record Industry in Netherlands and will come in a custom house sleeve design.
Big thanks to all the producers involved in helping to make this release a reality, to all the other record label owners who have advised me in the process, and to all the people out there supporting the modern day jungle sound.
